Grand Junction Fire FC Recreation Practice Planner U9 Week 9 May 14-18 Theme: Attacking 1v1 and Finishing from Different Angles Aim: To improve an attackers ability to beat a defender in 1v1 situations. To improve an attackers ability to score goals from different angles in and around the box
Warm up: ‘British bulldogs’ area 20x20yds. Split into two groups, attackers on one end line with balls, 2 defenders without balls in middle. Cone line in the middle which defenders start on the back side of. Coach shouts go, attackers dribble forward and try to beat defenders. Once across middle line they’re safe. If defenders stop any attackers and get their ball, that attacker now becomes a defender. Repeat until last attacker is winner. Progress by: add rules on later rounds (must use weaker foot, has to use a move to beat defender, cant use a move) Coaching points: use both feet and all surfaces of feet, use move if necessary, change of pace once past defender, awareness of who defender is closing down, attack space quickly Technical work: 2 touch finishing from angles. Striker about 15yds from goal, one on either side, 2 lines of passers another 10yds back. Passer plays ball to attacker, has 2 touches to score. That attacker gets ball and joins passing line on other side, passer replaces attacker, opposite line then go. Then switch who stands where, so passer stands wide and striker stands central, thus creating a different angle for the striker. Progress by: limit to first time shot, specify which foot striker must use, allow passer to make a recovery run to pressure striker, allow passer to follow pass and defend in front of the striker, add goalkeepers. Coaching points: all above points, strike across goal, power (laces, instep) or placement (inside), shoot before defender gets to you if possible, if not you have to beat them
Game scenario: area is around the box. Split into 3 teams, two in the box, one acting as support/feeders on the edge of the box. There are a set amount of balls each team gets to score as many goals as possible. Players move around to find space, to receive from a player on the edge of the box, those players can also be used as support players, but they cant leave their spot. Defenders aim to clear the ball from the box. Progress by: if defenders win the ball they can score on goal for bonus points, cannot use support players on the outside Coaching points: all above points, good movement away from defender into space, ‘can i score?’ If so shoot on sight, power or placement
Small sided game: Small sided game: play as a normal game, but put the goals a lot closer to each other than usual (edge of box is used as half way line) Put a healthy supply of balls by each goal. Encourage attackers to shoot from anywhere around half way, aim is to see shots on goal every few seconds. Progress by: increasing distance between goals, must pass 3 times before they can shoot. Coaching points: above points, first thought is ‘can i score?’, is there dribble room in front to get closer and increase chances of scoring, placement or power depending on distance from goal.
