Grand Junction Fire FC Recreation Practice Planner U10 Week 3 April 2-6 Theme: Passing and Receiving. Combination Plays. Aim: To improve players passing and receiving while moving. To learn new and improve on already known combination plays and how, when and where to use them

Warm up: split group into teams of 3/4. One tall cone with 6 disc cones on top, 10-15yds away two tall cones make up a gate. First player passes to partner behind the gate. If it goes through gate and is received the passer picks up one disc cone, runs to the gate and places it on one of the cones. If it misses the gate, or receiver misses the ball, passer still runs to the gate, but no cone is taken. First team to move all cones from one side to the other wins. Progress by: forcing all players to use their weaker foot, if any cone is knocked down they must start over. Coaching points: inside of foot, step into pass with toes pointing towards target, follow through.

Technical work: creat a circle about 25yds across, half players on inside half on outside. First combination is a take over. Player on inside dribbles towards a player on the outside. A couple of yards away they stop the ball dead, while the player on the outside comes in and dribbles ball to someone else on outside. Second combination is a 1-2 (also known as give and go or wall pass). Player on inside passes ball to player on outside, and moves to creat an angle, receives the ball back, then plays into space for the player on the outside to run onto and receive. The final combination is an overlap. Player on inside passes ball to a player on the outside, tells the to ‘hold’ the ball, they run round the back off that player and ask them to release it, ball is played in front of them and they receive and go find someone else on the edge of the circle. Progress by: specifying a certain foot to pass/receive with, specify a direction they must overlap, have a competition to see who can complete the most combinations in one minute. Coaching points: above points, firm and accurate passes, passes played ahead of the runners, good communication Game scenario: area is around the box. Split into 3 teams, two in the box, one acting as support/feeders on the edge of the box. There are a set amount of balls each team gets to score as many goals as possible. Players move around to find space, to receive from a player on the edge of the box, look to use quick combinations in and around the area, players on outside can be used as support players, but they cant leave their spot. Defenders aim to clear the ball from the box. Progress by: giving bonus points for goals scored after a combination, allow a support player in to the box on an overlap, if defenders win the ball they can score on goal for bonus points, cannot use support players on the outside Coaching points: all above points, passes played into runs, take early shot if option is on

Small sided game: area 50x40 with two channels on the outside of the field. Even numbers on teams, with one player in each channel who is a support player for both teams. Support players cannot be tackled, no defenders allowed in the channel but an attacking player can go in to overlap them. Rotate the channel players regularly so everyone gets a go in there. A player can perform a take over and they now replace the channel player (can move them back at the next stoppage however) Progress by: adding additional support players to the channels, have support players play for one team only, allow a defender in to the channel Coaching points: all above points, look to use channel players if wide, use combinations in more crowded central areas too, use specific combinations in specific areas of the field
