Truth Flowing from One Generation to the Next— Through Strong Heart Connections
STUDENTS PAGE June 29—July 2, 2011 Loving God—Richard Ross, Ph.D. **SPECIAL NOTE: Beginning in July 2011, Heart Connex will discontinue its email delivery, but families will still be able to access the devotions at www.lifeway.com/heartconnex. 1. Heart Surprise (Today a teenager goes first): Say: Here is something that will help you know me better. If I were given a million dollars today, I would use it to . . . Something from the Heart Surprise I want to remember:
2. Read Scripture: Joshua 22:5
Truth • God loves us and wants us to love Him completely. Untruths • It is not possible to love God. • God doesn’t expect anyone to love Him. • All I need is to love myself and no one else.
3. Explore Scripture: Write what you want to remember about the Scriptures.
4. Think It Through: Say: Let’s pretend that a friend is just finishing boot camp. He is about to get shipped to a dangerous foreign country. What final word of advice would you give him? Let each family member share his or her advice. Ask: How closely does your advice resemble the advice given in Joshua 22:5? Let each family member evaluate his or her advice and respond to your question. Say: When you care about someone, you encourage him or her to love God and to follow His Word. Let’s show our love for God by following His instructions on how we can best live in this world. 5. Nail It Down: A parent will lead this step. 6. Pray: Say: Father, show each member of our family how to best express his or her love for You each day. Continue with your own prayer. 7. Blessing: Listen as your parent blesses the family. Teen Tip: There is still plenty of summer left. List one or two highlights from your summer to this point. Share these with your parents and ask them to suggest their ideas for making the rest of the summer great. Thank them for the opportunity to share. Copyright 2011 LifeWay Press. All rights reserved.
