Mount Olive Baseball & Softball Association Meeting Minutes: Mar. 15th, 2016 Attendees:
President – Pete DiMaggio Budd Lake field: SOLD !! no games to be scheduled until further notice. Purchased by an investment firm. Meeting with Township to determine moving of concessions stand; fencing; mix; cages; etc , if we are unable to play on that field any further. Opening night: Fri. April 15th – under the lights. Field Maintenance: 1st field detail only involved 11 volunteers. 2nd detail @ 11 am this Saturday @ TB - will involve mandatory participation from each team. Equipment handout @ 2 pm. Fence caps and batting cages along with windscreens need to be put up. Fields have already been groomed. Background Checks: Tue 3/22 to allow new Managers/Coaches to be ready. Fingerprinting checks MUST be done, along with the certification. MOBSA is open to having coaches donate their background reimbursements. Coaches Credential Night: will have handout packets for all of the Managers to hand out to the parents, related to fundraisers, events, etc. Somerset Patriots: Fri June 17th Practices: may start as of 3/21 Whiskey & Cigar Night: April 6th @ Corner Pub Unform Handout: Tue April 12th AED: 4 ordered for DJ/RN/TB/TB at cost of $4,200. Discussing w/ Weis to have them donate. Would put in a writeup in the newspapers. Training will be conducted once the AEDs are received. Vice President of Softball – Paul Segnello Looking for coaches on the younger teams Practices should be preapproved by Mike/Paul/Pete – and only on the field Vice President of Babe Ruth – Mike Mancini Need new Managers for Farms level. Practices should be preapproved by Mike/Paul/Pete – and only on the fields Rosters have been handed out. Still open registrations. Families MUST be contacted soon and details provided. Practice schedules to be worked on shortly. Please forward any potential conflicts beforehand for weekday practices. Once the schedule is set, revisions should be worked out between managers. Other coaches should be able to host practice even if the Managers are not available at the assigned time. Need to finalize coaching staff by Managers. Paperwork MUST be in place by next Tue, even if it is just Fingerprint check appointment. Ratings must have been turned in from 2015 or not coaching this year. Work Detail this Saturday MUST be done by each team or equipment will not be handed out by James. Babe Ruth Drafts: awaiting the High School & Middle School cuts before draft is conducted. Will include Hackettstown; Long Valley; Roxbury; MO. Junior (13 years and some 14 yrs) & Senior Babe Ruth (some 14; all 15 & 16 yrs) Leagues to be formed separately, rather than combining 13-16 year olds.
Baseball Rules: rules to be read and discussed in the next meeting. Pitching rules are critical and subject to forfeit. Coaches shirts – 1st one was free. Additional ones has a cost associated with it. Need League Coordinator for each level. Russ Nagle: only 60/90 in Mount Olive. Need help for donations of time/equipment for 2nd batting cage; cover the dugout roofs; fix fence by the warmup area. Working on putting in a press box through Youtz Construction. Need to address Concessions stand for that field, behind the backstop. New scoreboard: in the works from Callaremi
Secretary – Snehal Desai MO Basketball sent out email blast for Baseball Registrations, after multiple requests. Will also ask Football to do so next year. no new modifications to Baseball/Softball rules proposed. Proposed program to collect used baseball/softball gear & Clothing. Can be used by younger kids. The cost to play in MOBSA Rec is very high, and we need to do what we can to reduce the expenses, and boost registrations down the road. Treasurer – Nate Richardson Not present Player Agent – Rich Smith Online Registrations: Baseball = 322 & Softball = 138 so far Equipment Director – James Gallagher Equipment handout @ 2 pm this Saturday at the TB shed. Head Groundskeeper – Sam Hollien nothing Publicity Director – Tom Cefola trying to figure out write-ups process. Activities Directors – Bill Lockwood / Steve Schmidt Golf Outing booked for Monday May 23rd @ Picattiny Arsenal. Looking for sponsorships and donations. Fundraising Director – Scott Eagleson Sponsorships setup online Field signage needs to be pushed Whiskey & Cigar Night – running 50/50 raffle; door prizes; gift certs from Sports Clips. Tents to be setup outside in the parking lot for drinks & cigars. Concessions Director – Christine Youtz not present Pete: Travel teams will be assigned to each concession stand. Website signups will allow parents the opportunities to fulfill their family Bond. Proceeds will be split 70% to all the travel teams, and 30% will go towards the Rec program.
Webmaster – Sal Matteis Waiting for team info to be uploaded on to website Umpire in Chief – Glen Huntley Umpire Clinic setup on March 20th from 1 pm – 5 pm. 25 new kids registered with 10 returning.
